Last night online media and Season Passholders were invited out to Knott's Berry Farm for the official unveiling of the 2014 Knott's Scary Farm line-up. As always, Knott's puts on an amazing event, and as always, the lineup for this years Scary Farm looks to be amazing. Some great returning mazes, some awesome sounding new mazes and a couple of surprises that I don't think anybody saw coming. Before we get started, the park provided us with some great Scary Farm B-Roll. It even features our very own CoasterMatt and his lovely wife. Can you find them? After a 2 1/2 hour drive we found ourselves in a familiar place, back at Knott's ready to kick off another year of Scary Farm. By the time we got inside the park at about 5:45, the line-up to get inside the "Ghoul Time Theater" was filled with anxious Haunt fans. I'd be hard pressed to find another annual event that has as many passionate fans as Knott's Scary Farm. Once inside the stage was set and the fog started rolling in. With Scary Farm music coming through the speakers, Monsters roaming the theater and the overall jubilation of the audience, Haunt was definitely in the air. And it was awesome. The event kicked off with the one and only Jeff Tucker escorting out the one and only Elvira as she announced her return to Haunt, and she will be at the event every night of the run this year. After Elvira's announcement, Jeff welcomed four very special people who are no strangers to Haunt fans. Laura Hanneman (Knott's Scary Farm Creative Director), Timothy "Gus" Krueger (Design Specialist), Daniel Miller (Design Specialist) and Brooke Walters (Design Supervisor) to talk about the mazes. WHAT'S IN THE BOX!!!! All week, the Knott's Scary Farm Facebook Page had been teasing a "Box" and asking, what could possibly be in the box. Hopefully it wouldn't be what Brad Pitt found in the box in the movie Se7en (spoiler alert). What was in the box was the annoucement of an all-new "Scary Farm Season Pass". This is only available to current Knott's Berry Farm Season Passholders and is only $65. There are no blackout days and you can come to Haunt every night of the run if you'd like. You can purchase them here, but you'd better hurry. They are limited and will sell out quickly. After all of the announcements, in typical Knott's fashion, an amazing reception was held for the media. Interviews were available with Haunt Designers and Elvira but since we don't really have that capability we just enjoyed the evening, the food and hanging out with some great friends. I guess we should eventually get on that bandwagon. =) Food!! Once again, thanks to Knott's for inviting us to their event, we had a blast. Now let's get to the good stuff ... what will actually be featured at Haunt this year!!! Returning MazesTrick or Treat Trick or treat, which will it be? Step forward and ring the witch’s doorbell. Trapped: Lock and Key This year Trapped returns with more rooms, more intricate puzzles and a shocking finale more extreme than any experience ever presented at Knott’s Scary Farm. The Tooth Fairy This twisted tooth fairy steals more than just baby teeth as he drags his victims out their bedroom window and into a world of deranged dentistry. Unbelievable special effects include a blackout room through which guests must feel their way out, a disorienting x-ray strobe light room, and a final encounter with the massive tooth fairy, himself. Say aahhh. Scare ZonesGhost Town Streets Ghost Town Streets is the original and still most terrifying scare zone that started it all. Bands of half-human, half-animal monsters prowl the streets and inhabit the fog. Beware the notoriously startling sliders, who lunge from in every fog-filled corner of the land. Fiesta De Los Muertos Fiesta De Los Muertos fuses dance music, colorful costumes, and larger than life stilt walkers in a dance party scare zone with even more characters than last year. It’s the ultimate late night celebration of Dia de los Muertos. CarnEvil The Knott’s Boardwalk is taken over by “CarnEVIL,” where the freak show is the main event and clowns crave your undying attention. Gypsy Camp Just beyond the streets of Ghost Town lies the mysterious outcropping known as Gypsy Camp, where fortune tellers prognosticate future terrors, and ravenous werewolves howl in the light of the moon. Special Ops: InfectedOne of the biggest and most pleasant surprises of the night was the announcement of Special Ops: Infected. Everybody was kind of puzzled why there wasn't a scare zone in Camp Snoopy but instead we get to shoot Zombies!! Really can't wait for this one. Should be awesome. Survive the Zombie Apocalypse in an All-Out War NEW for 2014 - This ambitious new attraction is the first of its kind in North America and will challenge guests to exterminate the infestation of zombies who threaten mankind’s existence. Armed with specially designed laser guns, brave groups of Knott’s Scary Farm guests will embark on missions, led by their Squad Leader – a loud mouthed, take-no-prisoners commander charged with turning guests into soldiers. Groups must work together to fend off zombies and complete various missions before time runs out. If zombies drag their bodies too close, the un-infected’s guns temporarily deactivate, compromising the safety of the entire team. Soldiers with the deadliest aim will be celebrated with a tally of the number of zombies killed on a display board for other survivors to see each night in base camp. Special Ops: Infected seamlessly integrates interactive gaming technology with an immersive mountainous landscape, delivering a breakthrough interactive haunted experience that is as terrifying as it is challenging. Missions will take guests through a variety of wilderness terrains, including the unpredictable barrel bridges across the rushing river, through the dark caverns, and through mysterious backwoods. Six acres of the beloved theme park is now home to mutinous, scream-inducing zombies, and the time has come for a harrowing Special Ops survival mission. ShowsElvira's Big Top Back by overwhelming demand for 2014 is Elvira – the legendary Mistress of the Dark. Elvira will headline her all new show "Elvira’s Big Top", in the 1,800 seat Charles M. Schultz Theatre twice nightly for the entire run of Knott’s Scary Farm. In her new show, Elvira becomes the Ring-Mistress of the Park as she hosts a circus carnival of macabre freaks and sinister side show acts. The show also features explosive dance performances by The Academy of Villains, who return to the stage in 2014 fresh off their appearance on Fox’s "So You Think You Can Dance?" Nightly - 9:00 pm | 11:30 pm ELVIRA’S BOO-TIQUE & SIGNING EVENT In honor of Elvira’s return to Knott’s Scary Farm, the Ride Warriors merchandise shop will temporarily become Elvira’s Boo-tique, where fans can purchase stylish apparel and sinfully fun products featuring and inspired by the Legendary Mistress of the Dark. Knott’s Scary Farm is the only place Elvira can be seen this Halloween season, and Elvira’s Boo-tique offers fans a once in a lifetime meet and greet opportunity! The Hanging A live stage show in Calico Square that irreverently looks back at the year's pop culture with some killer comedy. Notorious for its special effects and high-flying stunts, The Hanging® is a no-holds-barred assault on pop culture’s most infamous moments of the past year. A must see parody! There is also a poll on the Knott's Page asking who we'd like to get hung this year. To buy tickets, Knott's Scary Farm Season Passes, Trapped tickets and more, check out the Knott's Scary Farm Page on the Knott's website. And get excited, Haunt begins on September 25th. And be sure to take our poll below. We were invited back out to Knott's on Saturday for the official grand opening of the Mine Ride and Camp Snoopy. We originally thought Saturday's event was another "blogger" event but it turns out it was for the people who worked on the ride and their families. Knott's was kind enough to invite me out since I couldn't attend on Media Day. Click the link if you missed our Media Day coverage. Calico Mine RideWe'll start off our report with a very detailed look at the exterior of the Mine Ride. The new rock work goes all the way around the mine. A look at one of the trains, beautifully renovated. Kaboom One of the trains going through the mine Only open a few days, already some gold in the water. The ride features new air gates, they don't interfere with capacity or themeing at all. Looking down at Ghost Town from the mine We got to ride with Bill Reyes, who re-created the fantastic music inside the mine. It was truly a treat to ride with him and his family as it was their first time through the mine. Hopefully we'll have more from Bill soon. Stay Tuned!!! My review of the updated Calico Mine Ride: Truly amazing in every way. From the outside to the inside everything is fantastic. I was a bit worried about the new animated spiels, but they actually add to the ride and we were able to hear two of the three spiels. Looking forward to hearing the 3rd one on our next visit. The new finale is simply fantastic and your family will absolutely love it. Camp SnoopyThe other new addition for 2014 are the Camp Snoopy enhancements for the 30th anniversary. This isn't just about the 3 new rides (although they are great) but the entire land has been redone and it looks amazing. Although my kids are no longer in the target Camp Snoopy age group, we had a great time exploring the land. All of the walkways in Camp Snoopy have also been redone Every single ride side in Camp Snoopy has a new hand-painted sign and they look great!! Pig Pen's Mud Buggies ... we had a blast on this!! Charlie Brown's Kite Flyer Linus Launcher We also took a ride on the updated Grand Sierra Railroad and we all loved it. The new spiel and Peanuts Characters really bring this ride back. Loved this tribute ... A look at some of the other great work that has been done in the area. There's lots to see. Chuck just rockin' out. I was tempted, but didn't want to be "that guy". =) Really nice seating area. The new fresh fruit truck was added on Sunday (or we didn't see it on Saturday) and this looks like a really nice area to sit and have a snack. Grizzly Creek Lodge also received an extensive remodel. Looks great Lastly, the clock has been rehabbed. Looks great. New Boardwalk Dark Ride?During Media Day, Knott's President Raffi Kaprelyan mentioned that a new Interactive Dark Ride is going to be coming to the Boardwalk in 2015. Other than the Boardwalk Ballroom (which is used a lot during the year) the logical place to put the ride is in the former location of Kingdom of the Dinosaurs. If the ride is going in this area and will have a Boardwalk theme would the Boardwalk area be extended to this area of the park? We'll have to see what is announced in the next few months. That's going to wrap it up for this update, we hope you enjoyed this look at the new Mine Ride and Camp Snoopy. If you have any comments please share them below!! We were invited up to Knott's Berry Farm yesterday to get a look at the new offerings for the Summer of 2014. Included are the newly redesigned Calico Mine Ride, completely re-done Camp Snoopy, the summer ice show and more. Special thanks to Matthew Nelson for covering the event, look for much more from Matt in the future. You can also check out Matt's Flickr page for more of his amazing pictures. The 30 years of Camp Snoopy sign ... as well as a plethora of awesome coasters in the background. The event kicked off in Camp Snoopy where the Peanuts Gang welcomed us to the all new land!! Matt's review of the new Camp Snoopy: Camp Snoopy has been rejuvenated beautifully- it feels a lot more like I remember it when I was 9 and it was shiny and new. Kids and parents were having a blast on the new rides, and in the new 'park' area for the littlest ones, there's a nice gazebo and benches to relax a bit. It was amazing to see kids enjoying Camp Snoopy, much the way I did when it was new. Let's take a look at the new Peanuts characters on the High Sierra RailRoad We'll have lots more Camp Snoopy pictures for you soon, but in the meantime, here's a look at Linus' Launcher. Next, we'll move on over to the Calico Mine Ride, which has received an extensive rehab similar to what the Timber Mountain Log Ride received last year. Matt's Review: This has long been my favorite non-coaster attraction at Knott's. Yes, even though the wonderful Timber Mountain Log Ride is right across the way, I've always loved going into the dark old Mine Ride. When the Log Ride was lovingly redone last year, it gave many of us great hope that the Mine Ride would get a similiar treatment. I was shocked this morning to see for myself, that it actually got an even better redo than the Log Ride. THere's now a recorded spiel for the ride, actually a few different ones so there is some variety in that regard, and while I'm sure some purists will be upset at that, it allows the ride to have several miners in the ride speak up to the riders. The whole mine is just so alive now! The Mine Ride opening ceremony Let's move inside the mine shall we ... As you can see, the ride looks more vibrant than ever. Inside the Glory Hole The outside portion of the ride before the grand finale'. We hope to have some pictures and video of the finale' soon. Knott's also has a couple of shows for you to enjoy this summer. First up is Boomtown which is kind of a western Cirque show. Oooh La La ... And lastly, what would a summer be like without the Snoopy Ice Show? That's going to wrap it up for our Media Day coverage. We'll have MUCH more for you in the days ahead as we're headed back to Knott's tomorrow for the "official" re-opening of the Mine Ride and Camp Snoopy. We hope you enjoyed this update!!!
